On January 31, The Sensex closed 612.21 points higher (0.86%) at 71,752.11, while the Nifty closed up 203.60 points (0.95%) at 21,725.70.
US MARKETS
US stocks declined as the Federal Reserve opted to maintain interest rates, dispelling hopes for an imminent rate cut in March. The Dow Jones fell 317.01 points (0.82%) to 38,150.30, the S&P 500 dropped 79.32 points (1.61%) to 4,845.65, and the Nasdaq Composite decreased by 345.88 points (2.23%) to 15,164.01.
ASIAN MARKETS
In early Thursday trading, Asian markets showed a mixed trend, with the Nikkei index down 0.7 percent and the Kospi index up 0.8 percent.
OIL & GAS UPDATES:
On Wednesday, Brent crude futures for March, expiring on that day, decreased by $1.16 (1.4%) to settle at $81.71 a barrel. The more actively traded April contract also declined by $1.89 (2.3%) to $80.55.
Additionally, US West Texas Intermediate crude futures settled down $1.97 (2.5%) at $75.85. Both benchmarks had earlier dropped by over $2 per barrel during the session.
