On May 8, the Sensex closed 45 points lower at 73,466.39, a decrease of 0.1%. Meanwhile, the Nifty 50 rose by 4.50 points. Advancing shares numbered 1,946, declining shares were at 1,310, and 106 remained unchanged.
US MARKETS
The index hovered near 5,190, following its most significant four-day gain since November, while 10-year Treasury yields increased to 4.49 percent. Equities continued their ascent in early May, supported by strong earnings and speculation of potential Fed rate cuts, bringing the S&P 500 to within 1 percent of its all-time high.
ASIAN MARKETS
Japan's Nikkei 225 rose by 0.15%, and the broader Topix increased by 0.29%. South Korea's Kospi declined by 0.21%, while the Kosdaq dropped by 0.13%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 edged down by 0.23%. Futures for Hong Kong's Hang Seng index indicated a weaker start compared to the previous close.
OIL & GAS UPDATES:
Early in Asian trading, oil prices declined following reports of higher U.S. crude and fuel inventories, signaling subdued demand. Brent crude futures slipped by 0.3% to $82.95 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures decreased by 0.2% to $78.25 per barrel.
